Almost twenty years ago, when we were living in Amarillo, Texas, my husband, Chris, and I passed by a dealership for motorhomes and other types of campers. And Chris said to me, "It might be fun to own one of them when we retire." So, one day we stopped into the dealership and looked at several. It was fascinating! Then we moved to the Fort Worth area and found out they have "RV Shows" twice a year in Fort Worth, and twice a year in Dallas. We went to one, and we were hooked. We went to almost every other one after than until Chris retired fifteen years later. That's about sixty shows! We also subscribed to Motorhome and Trailer Life Magazines. And we decided, somewhere in there, that we wanted to sell the house and buy a motorhome when we retired. To live in fulltime. The majority of men we have talked to love the idea. The women like the idea of owning some sort of camper, but don't want to give up their homes. I'm a military wife, and I became used to traveling around to different places and developed a taste for travel. I also have never been particularly attached to things or stuff. Only photographs, pieces of flotsam and jetsam from ancestors handed down, and books. I got rid of an awful lot of books! That was difficult, but not impossible. It is unbelievably freeing to not have a lot of stuff to take care of. Chris never mows a yard, nor rakes it, nor shovels snow. I can clean the inside of the motorhome in about one hour per week. I have a washer/dryer combination, so do laundry just as I did at home. This gives us so much time to explore different places, to visit lots of people, to meet new ones, to just relax on the beach and fly our kites or read a book.
